Kaizer Chiefs threw away a one-goal lead, courtesy of Glody Lilepo, to lose 2-1 at the FNB Stadium against Marumo Gallants on Saturday.

The visitors struck back through Trevor Mathiane and Daniel Msendami to get a crucial win that brought them closer to the top eight.

However, the result was a blow to the Soweto giants, who are now outside the MTN8 positions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has been faulted for the goals, especially the second one, that the team conceded.

There have been arguments that the Bafana Bafana international should have done better in keeping the seemingly easy free-kick out of the target.

However, former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani believes the custodian was disrupted, and that it could have been an offside call in favour of Amakhosi.

  • WHAT HLUNGWANI SAID

"That action that the player [Phathutshedzo Nange] did there impacted on [Bruce] Bvuma's ability to play the ball," he said on SNAWA.

"So that is interfering with an opponent. So that should be ruled as offside," Hlungwani concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Massive assignment awaits Chiefs this weekend, where they will be hosting Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, hoping to end their six-match winless run in the league.

With three games left, they have to give absolutely everything to deliver and avoid finishing out of the MTN8 positions for the second time in a row.
