Wydad ACDecision made! Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena set to leave Wydad Casablanca
Wydad ACWHAT HAPPENED?
Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena is set to leave Wydad Casablanca at the end of the season, his agent Steve Kapelushnik has revealed.
Kapelushnik was set to travel to Morocco for the talks, as the coach is said to have gone months without pay. Now, it is clear that the Premier Soccer League-winning coach will not continue with Wydad Casablanca beyond next season.
Wydad ACWHAT KAPELUSHNIK SAID
"I met with President Hisham, the coach, and the technical staff, and there was mutual support between the two parties,” Kapelushnik told Radio Mars as periDiski Times.
“I clearly told the president, ‘If you don’t want Rhulani to stay, tell us and we’ll leave. But if you want him, let him stay until the end of the season'.
“And that was agreed upon. He will stay until the end, and then we will leave in a professional and respectful manner. The future is clear now. There are five matches left, and Rhulani will continue until the end," he added.
Wydad ACTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Mokwena's stint with the Moroccan giants has not been rosy. The results on the pitch have been poor, and they were recently eliminated from the Throne Cup by Moghreb Atletico Tetuan.
His expected exit means he would have been in charge of Wydad Casablanca for only one season. He was appointed the coach of the former Caf Champions League winners in July 2024 after his shock exit from Sundowns.
They failed to challenge for the Botola Pro League title, with RS Berkane running with it before the season ends.
Wydad ACWHAT NEXT FOR MOKWENA?
After several setbacks, Wydad Casablanca's aim is now to qualify for the Champions League, but this challenge is not easy either; they must win all the remaining five games.
Their next league game will be against Raja Casablanca on April 12.
