    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula has revealed how important Thembinkosi Lorch's presence at Wydad AC was for him.

The two were part of the Wydad AC's playing unit, and given that both are South Africans, Mailula has revealed how that national bond helped him.

    WHAT MAILULA SAID

“I think having one person that comes from the same country as you actually helped us,” Mailula told Andile Ncube on Metro FM, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“It made me feel—how can I put it—to feel free if I want to share something with him because of the language," he added.

“It actually made things easier for me to play on the pitch because he would be able to communicate something with me to fix something, and I could be able to do the same back to him.

“Actually, having him was really amazing, because we also stayed at the same complex; we’d go to training together, and even off the pitch we’d spend more time together instead of being alone, where you can’t go out alone, and you can’t do certain things alone.

“That also helped me a lot to feel at home.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Recently, Mailula confirmed that his time with the Moroccan giants was over, and that means he is set to return to his club, Toronto FC.

He was part of the Wydad AC's FIFA Club World Cup contingent and scored a fabulous goal against Al Ain, their last group match. Overall, he started in two games and came from the bench once.

Mailula and Lorch were brought to Wydad AC by Rhulani Mokwena, who left the club at the end of last season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAILULA?

He is set to rejoin his Major Soccer League teammates at Toronto FC, hoping to have a far better campaign with them. Before he was loaned to Wydad, he struggled; at some point, he was relegated to the second team.

Although he had been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, he stated that should he return to the Premier Soccer League, his preference is Sundowns.
