The Belgian mentor announced his <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/ngezana-mayo-kaizer-chiefs-bvuma-make-bafana-bafana-final-squad-for-international-friendlies/bltb30452880141e6d7#csf89218f02921945c" target="_blank">23-man squad</a> on Monday, March 11th, for the upcoming friendlies against Andorra and Algeria, featuring 10 new players who did not compete in Bafana's Africa Cup of Nations campaign.&nbsp; Despite his impressive performances, Mofokeng has not made the cut for these friendly matches, which may come as a surprise given his recent form.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In only his second season since joining the Pirates' senior team, Mofokeng has participated in 24 matches across various competitions, scoring twice and assisting three times.&nbsp; Moreover, during the Soweto Derby on Saturday, March 9th, the 19-year-old started in the lineup at a packed FNB Stadium, impressing spectators and prompting Broos to closely monitor his performance.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

“There was a high intensity in the effort from the players in the (Soweto) Derby,” Broos revealed after the Bafana squad announcement on Sabc Sport. “There was rhythm in the game, it was not a slow game. There was good football, good combinations (from the) players on the wings.&nbsp;For me, another one I have to watch for the future is Mofokeng. This is a guy with potential.“So, when you see that from a young boy from the team of Pirates and then you can only be happy as the coach of a national team because we saw what happened at the Afcon,” he continued.“Those were not boring games. From the first minute, everyone is playing like they’re playing for their lives.&nbsp;“They go for 100% and maybe more so and when you’re not used to doing that in the PSL or in the local competition, it’s very difficult to do that at Afcon level and that’s why we need to raise the level of PSL,” he concluded.

WHAT BROOS SAID?

With Broos taking notice of Mofokeng's abilities, the player will be focused on maintaining his impressive form for the Buccaneers, where he will look to secure a spot in the starting lineup ahead of his more seasoned teammates under the watchful eye of club coach Jose Riveiro.&nbsp;Additionally, his immediate task will be on the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 where Pirates face Hungry Lions on Saturday, March 16th.
