The 25-year-old's long run without finding the net finally came to an end as he fired the Potters ahead in the Carabao Cup

One of the most talked about goal droughts in English football has finally come to an end after 913 days!

Saido Berahino, once thought to be a future England star, netted his first goal in two and a half years to put Stoke 1-0 to the good against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup

The 25-year-old was considered a potential star as a young player but was hampered by a bust-up with Tony Pulis at West Brom and has failed to follow through on that early promise.

He has now become something a joke in some circles, with his inability to find the net sparking a raft of memes on social media.

But those may now come to a close with his goal for Stoke City, a headed effort after James McClean's shot came back off the woodwork and fell kindly for the forward.

It ended a run of playing time that spanned 40 hours and 26 minutes of football over 48 appearances.

In between strikes for Berahino, with the last competitive goal he scored coming for West Brom against Crystal Palace in February 2016, fellow 25-year-old Englishman Harry Kane has netted 103 times.

And while Kane is among the top strikers in world football now, it shows the massive gap between the promising young talent who didn't pan out and the one who did.

But the run is over, and maybe Berahino can use his latest strike to kick-start a better run for his career.
