FIFA have handed down their sanctions a month after the ugly brawl that broke out following the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, with punishments for everyone caught up in the incident.
Leandro Paredes copped a 10-match ban as the chief instigator in the closing minutes, while Nahuel Molina drew a 7-match suspension for an unprovoked assault on Rodri. Almada picked up a one-match ban of his own, punished for holding Gavi while Paredes struck him.
Three matches was Ayala's punishment for throwing a punch at Dani Olmo. Gavi, meanwhile, was the only Spain player to be sanctioned, banned for one match for shoving Eric Garcia, who was also assaulted by Paredes.
FIFA's disciplinary committee sanctioned all four members of the Argentina delegation and slapped hefty financial fines on them too.
Paredes and Molina were each fined 77,000 euros. Almada and Ayala, a member of the technical staff and a former footballer, were hit with 25,000 euros apiece, as was the Barcelona man.
The upshot is that Gavi will miss the trip to Wembley to face England on 26 September in the UEFA Nations League.
Under Article 69, paragraphs 2a and 3, of the Disciplinary Code, match suspensions carry over to the next fixtures of the national teams concerned. That means the three Argentina players cannot link up with their country for the matches covered by their bans.
