Sundowns have what it takes to win Caf Champions League again, says Kekana

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to resume their Caf Champions League campaign on Saturday evening.

The defending champions are scheduled to lock horns with Ethiopian giants Saint George and will be hoping to hit the ground running. An an integral part of Sundowns’ triumphant campaign was the role of captain Hlompho Kekana and the 31-year-old is confident that Sundowns have what it takes to retain their crown.

“It would be very special for the club‚ the fans and the players to retain this trophy in South Africa‚" Kekana told Times Media.

"When we started the campaign last season we never thought of winning the trophy but we did it and it can be done again this time around if we try.

“It is going to be an exciting campaign for us and we are looking forward to the match against Saint George,” Kekana added.

"I am sure that they are coming here prepared and we will also be ready for them because every match is a different story,” Kekana continued.

Due to the Brazilians’ success on the continent they have been forced to contend with a heavily congested fixture schedule but Kekana maintains that Sundowns will continue to remain professional.

“We knew that by qualifying for the Champions League again this year‚ this is what was going to happen,” Kekana said.

"We have to sacrifice our rest‚ time with families and be professional enough because football is our life and we must go out there and do whatever it is necessary because we love our work,” Kekana concluded.
