Reyaad Pieterse, Mamelodi Sundowns

Reyaad Pieterse enjoying life at Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse remains in good spirits despite seeing his game time limited since making his move from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.

The 26-year-old left Matsatsantsa in search of greener pastures but many questioned that with the stiff competition at the club was Pieterse making the right move.

It’s been really good, I’m really enjoying myself, learning with the likes of Denis (Onyango), Kennedy (Mweene) and Thela (Ngobeni) and obviously coach Wendell (Robinson). People always wonder why you would join Sundowns but it’s a team with a lot of top goalkeepers with good experience. So, I’m willing to learn and grow,” Pieterse told reporters at a media open day held on Thursday.

“Everyone is competitive in their own right but when you join a team like Sundowns, you know that you have to graft really hard because you know there is 25-26 other top players around you. So, the challenge is really good,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sundowns take on Baroka in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal and while it has been an indifferent start to their season, Pieterse remains optimistic.

“Preparations have been good, we got a break on Monday obviously for the guys to recover from the tough trip to Chippa. But you know preparations have been good, really positive mood, we’ve done our video analysis on them,” he said.

“We looking to go to the next round, put our name into the hat and compete. So, like I said it’s been very good and we are looking forward to the game on Saturday,” he continued.

It was apparent on Thursday as the Sundowns technical team put their team through their paces that the club are planning for every eventuality.

“We always prepare penalties before a cup competition because you never know, it could go to penalties. Obviously, we would like to wrap it up in 90 minutes, but if it has to go to penalties you know as long as we prepare for the worse that’s good for us,” he concluded.
