Paez: Kaizer Chiefs will take it one game at a time in Nedbank Cup

Kaizer Chiefs striker Gustavo Paez says they are taking it one game at a time in the 2016/17 Nedbank Cup.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan grabbed a brace as Amakhosi overcame ABC Motsepe side Acornbush United 2-1 in the last 16 clash on Sunday.

“This is an important win for the club,” Paez told the club's official website on Monday.

“We realized that time was not on our side as the game progressed, we had to do something different to win this match," he said.

“The coach made the necessary changes when we were trailing. And that became the turning point for us," Paez continued.

Paez was introduced during the half-time break with Amakhosi trailing 1-0 and he scored twice in the second-half at the Kabokweni Stadium.

“The condition of the pitch made playing good football difficult. The pitch was hard and the heat was virtually unbearable," he added.

“We didn’t want to go to extra time and the penalties, because that would have been a lotto scenario.

"We want to win this cup. However, we take it step by step and one game at a time," he continued.

Paez is Amakhosi's top goalscorer in this season's Nedbank Cup with three goals.

The Soweto giants were pitted against SuperSport United in a quarter-final encounter.
