Orlando Pirates keeper Ovono heading to Turkey for trials

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Felipe Ovono will be going to Turkey for an assessment with an unnamed club, chairman Dr Irvin Khoza confirmed to City Press.

The Equatorial Guinea international came under fire for his poor performances in the first half of the season, and was relegated to the stands.

He is further down in the pecking order at Bucs, behind both Jackson Mabokgwane and Brighton Mhlongo who featured heavily under Augusto Palacios.

Palacios revealed late last year that Ovono would be given another chance to redeem himself in the second round, but the player appears to have made up his mind about leaving the Soweto giants.

Ovono’s agent Sipho Shaven told Goal a few weeks ago that the 23-year-old would consider leaving the Sea Robbers should he be presented with a chance to further his career elsewhere.

It is unclear at this stage when exactly Ovono would be leaving for Turkey, but he would hope to secure a move away from Bucs before the closing of the transfer window at the end of the month.

He featured twice for the club in the first round and conceded three goals in the process.

Pirates are busy preparing for the second hard of the campaign, and they working hard behind the scenes to get their house in order to possibly challenge for the PSL title.

They are currently placed 10th on the log with just 18 points from 13 league games.
