Nchout bids farewell to Valerenga ahead of rumoured Atletico Madrid move

Ajara Nchout has expressed her appreciation for Norwegian side Valerenga ahead of a rumoured move to Spanish Iberdrola side Atletico Madrid.

The Cameroon international enjoyed a remarkable time at the Norwegian Toppserien outfit, scoring 29 goals in all appearances for Jack Majgaard's side since joining in December 2018.

Her 15 goals helped Valerenga to a Toppserien runners-up plus a Champions League slot and Norwegian Cup runners-up spot in her debut season in 2019.

She carried on from where she left off in 2020, inspiring her side to a historic domestic double triumph, Champions League Round of 32 and also won the Toppserien topscorer, netting 10 times.

And following her incredible title-winning career breakthrough season in Norway, the 27-year-old, whose two-year contract has officially run out, has thanked the club for their support.

"Valerenga, Thank you for these moments," Nchout wrote in her worded parting message via her official Instagram page.

"We have spent two wonderful seasons with sad moments with the second place and the final loss last season, and moments of joy this season with the title of champion, the Norwegian Cup and the Golden Shoe that I won thanks to my teammates and staff.

"Today, I leave Valerenga with a heart full of sadness to leave a family, but with a heart full of joy of an accomplished duty.

"To Valerenga, my teammates, the staff, the management and the wonderful fans, Thank you."

With her exit from Valerenga, Goal understands that Nchout, who is currently on holiday in Cameroon has agreed in principle to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a two-year deal.

And the rumoured move seemed to be confirmed in comments by Cameroon's minister Joseph Le following a visit by the player on Monday.

“This Monday, 12/28/2020, I received the international football player, Nchout Ajara Njoya, who presented me with the trophies she won during the season at the Norwegian championship with her club Valerenga. Well done my daughter! New challenge at Atletico de Madrid starting this season”, the minister wrote on Twitter.

Having bid farewell to Valerenga this week, the Cameroonian is expected to gain an entry visa to Spain, where she will wrap up her medical and paperwork with Atletico.
