KFC Moments of the Day: Pavard's screamer and Cavani's beauty

A stunning goal helped France fight back and secure a hard-fought victory over Argentina, while Edinson Cavani netted a fantastic winning goal for Uruguay against Portugal.

Moment One

France international Benjamin Pavard scored a sensational goal as Les Bleus fought back to overcome a resilient Argentina side in an enthralling match on Saturday afternoon.

With France trailing 2-1 against La Albiceleste, Pavard scored his first career international goal when his country needed it most to make it 2-2 three minutes before the hour-mark.

Les Bleus full-back Lucas Hernandez played a cross from the left which made its way all across the pitch to Pavard, who unleashed a stunning outside of the boot half volley that rippled into the top corner.

The moment of brilliance sparked France’s fight back as they went on to secure a 4-3 victory over Argentina, who bowed out of the competition, while Les Bleus advanced to the quarter-finals where they will face Uruguay.

The goal has been hailed by many as a goal of the tournament contender and the Germany-based right-back has certainly cemented his place in the France starting line-up with that wonder strike.

The VFB Stuttgart defender came into the tournament as Les Bleus’ second-choice right-back behind AS Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe but Pavard has definitely made the position his own.

Moment Two

Uruguay international Edinson Cavani proved to be the hero for his nation as they stunned Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in another entertaining game in the global tournament on Saturday night.

The marksman gave the Sky Blues an early lead as he headed home Luis Suarez’s delightful cross to make it 1-0 to Uruguay, but Portugal defender Pepe levelled matters 10 minutes into the second half.

However, with the match still up in the air, Cavani stepped up and delivered for the Sky Blues once again following a quick counter attack by the South Americans with the Navigators defence exposed.

The France-based striker showed his brilliance with a lovely one-touch curler into the far side of the goal to make it 2-1 to Uruguay in the 62nd minute - beating Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

The goal was enough to send Uruguay to the quarter-finals and it was Cavani’s third at the tournament.
