Kaizer Chiefs fan Masilo Machaka welcomes Khama Billiat's signing

Kaizer Chiefs number one supporter Masilo Machaka has welcomed the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Khama Billiat, saying he's convinced that they will now challenge for major trophies.

Although he says they still need more players to ensure the squad is fully capable of winning trophies next season, especially with their eyes set on Caf Confederation Cup participation, he expressed delight after the striker's arrival.

The passionate supporter has also urged his fellow Amakhosi supporters to come to the stadium in numbers to witness the club rewriting the history of South African football.

Chiefs announced three players on Friday in Billiat, Letlhogonolo Mirwa and Andriamirado Andrianarimanana, ahead of the highly anticipated 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

Machaka also thanked the management for working hard behind the scenes to land the Zimbabwean’s signature and also acknowledged that the pressure mounted on the club following three seasons without a trophy.

Speaking exclusively to Goal on Sunday, Machaka added that it was not easy for everyone associated with the club to suffer heart break after a three-year trophy drought under Steve Komphela’s tenure.

“Yeah, finally we have our man. We are happy as Chiefs supporters and we welcome him at the club with open arms. I feel for Sundowns,” he told Goal.

“We will end their dominance, just watch us next season. Billiat is very talented and he has proven it to the continent that he is the best," warned Machaka.

“We thank the management for bringing him to the club and the management has been under pressure for the past three years and we know that, but we are fully behind them," he said.

“I know that his arrival was delayed because he had to join Sundowns. He was supposed to come here with Musona a long time ago – we have the likes of Katsande and Shabba who will show him the 'Love and Peace' way. He must settle down quickly,” he continued.

“Yes, he was famous at Sundowns, but we are bigger than Sundowns and he will go big and enjoy more success at Chiefs. He is a Glamour Boy now,” added the supporter.

“We will now win trophies, but we need more players because we cannot rely only on Billiat alone to make things happen for us,” added the Glamour Boys number one.

With Bafana boss Stuart Baxter heavily linked with the coaching job at Chiefs, Machaka said he would prefer Shakes Mashaba at the helm because he has all the qualities of leading the club back to glory.

However, he said they will support the club’s decision on the new coach whether they will choose a foreign or a local coach.

“Shakes Mashaba is the man for us. I think we must get a local coach since he has proven himself and he knows the model of our game and the PSL,” responded the supporter.

“We will see who they choose, but for now I am going to Russia for the World Cup because football is my culture, with Bafana or no Bafana – we support football all the way,” he concluded.
