Kaizer Chiefs duo Giovanni Solinas and Khama Billiat take PSL monthly awards for September

Kaizer Chiefs have seen their hard work recognised during the month of September as head coach Giovanni Solinas and playmaker Khama Billiat walked away with the Coach and Player of the Month awards respectively.

During the month of September, Amakhosi faced off against the likes of Cape Town City, Free State Stars and AmaZulu, registering three wins on the trot.

It was certainly not the best of starts for Solinas to his tenure at the Soweto giants, but after battling back over the past month, Chiefs are now being touted as potential title challengers come the end of the season.

But while Solinas may have got his tactics spot on, his star player Billiat has certainly come to the fore. Not only has the Zimbabwean scored three goals already in the league with two of those coming against the Citizens in a 4-1 drubbing of the recently crowned MTN8 champions, but Billiat has also been Chiefs’ creative magician.

The 28-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns talisman has found his feet at his new club and leads the PSL's assists charts with three assists.

Of those three assists, two has come in the month of September as Billiat was instrumental in the wins over Ea Lla Koto and Usuthu as well.

Chiefs’ recent form has put them back amongst the league’s top guns as they currently occupy third spot on the table, and are just two points behind log leaders Bidvest Wits and a point behind Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs though, were most recently brought back down to earth as Highlands Park put on a gutsy performance to hold the Glamour Boys to their fifth draw of the season.
