    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates appointed Jose Riveiro as their coach at the beginning of the 2022-23 season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Since taking over as Bucs coach, things have changed for the better.

The Sea Robbers have won five domestic trophies and are just a win away from the Caf Champions League final.

The Buccaneers are also keen to beat Mamelodi Sundowns to the Premier Soccer League crown.

To avoid struggles once Riveiro leaves, South African coach Jacky Ledwaba has opened up on why assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi should be considered.

    WHAT LEDWABA SAID

"For me, I could say, continue with the coaches who have been working with him. They understand the system very well, and the player will also understand that system which will see the team continue from where coach Jose could have left. So I think continuity could be the best way to go," the tactician told SNL24.

"You have seen with other teams where the assistant coaches takes over and the team does well. They should give it a try. The players already know these coaches.

"You know, sometimes it takes a long [time] to get used to a new coach.

"Sometimes it works like it did with Riveiro but keeping the same coaches who worked with him could be the best way," Ledwaba concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

As Riveiro concentrates on winning his third consecutive Nedbank Cup title and a second Caf Champions League star, the management is working on getting a new coach.

It will be vital for them to get someone who will take the club on greater heights after what Riveiro has achieved.
