    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs recently signed Lebohang Maboe as a free agent after he was released by their rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns.

He joined Amakhosi when the 2025/26 term was already underway and after missing out on the pre-season training as he searched for a new club.

The attacker has opened up on when he thinks he might be ready for competitive football.

    WHAT MABOE SAID

“I think right now I just want to focus on getting my body back to where I know my body can, you know, sustain the whole 90 minutes, which is not the case right now, if I’m being honest with myself as well,” Maboe said as per iDiski Times.

“But yeah, I just want to work hard during the FIFA break and let’s see what happens after the FIFA break.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Maboe struggled with injuries while at Mamelodi Sundowns, who ended up loaning him out to SuperSport United during the second half of last season.

That might demand that Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi and his technical staff be careful in the way they handle the attacker to keep him in top shape.

Having missed the entire pre-season, it might take time for Maboe to get back to competitive football.

    WHAT NEXT?

Kaizer Chiefs' first match after the current FIFA international break is the hosting of tricky Sekhukhune United on September 17.

It is unlikely for Maboe to be fit to feature in that match.
