    WHAT HAPPENED?

Edson Castillo established himself at Kaizer Chiefs after joining in 2023.

The Venezuela international signed an initial two-year contract with an option to extend it.

In the first season with the club, Castillo played 32 games, scoring five goals and providing an assist in the process.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This season, Castillo was set to have an even better impact, but his season was rudely cut short just five games into the campaign when he had provided an assist already.

He was injured in October against SuperSport United during the Premier Soccer League outing.

The South American has been training since January hoping to make a comeback.

His agent Mauricio Andrade has confirmed the 30-year-old will remain at Amakhosi beyond this season.

    WHAT ANDRADE SAID

“I can confirm that Edson will stay for another season, he has renewed his contract with Chiefs and there is also an option to continue for another year,” he told iDiski Times.

“Edson is very happy with his extension as it was his desire to continue with the club for next years to come. He is committed to helping the team win trophies," Andrade concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Castillo is expected to get back into the starting team once he proves his match fitness.

However, he will be battling the likes of Yusuf Maart, Thabo Cele, George Matlou and Sibongiseni Mthethwa for a starting berth.
