    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana international Teboho Mokoena scored a brace as South Africa defeated Congo 5-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in fully packed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on October 11.

In a recent interview with the media, the versatile midfielder admitted he loves scoring in a fully packed stadium. This comment has not been taken lightly by some Mamelodi Sundowns fans who felt it was aimed at them.

  • WHAT MOKOENA SAID

"I just want to see myself in the field whether I’m playing centre-back, whether I play right-back, six, eight, 10. Scoring goals is not really a priority for me. The priority for me is to make the team play well, we defend well, our transition is good, the rest of defence is good," the 27-year-old told the media.

"I did enjoy [scoring against Congo]. It was fully packed. I don’t play a lot of games in the full stadium, so I had to enjoy it. I would love to score those goals at club level," Mokoena stated.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A section of Masandawana supporters were unhappy with the comment considering the fact that their team struggles to fill stadiums unless they play Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs.

The Brazilians have been rapidly growing in Mzansi, but it is tough to beat the Soweto Giants in terms of following.

Mokoena has since clarified his comments to the public.
