    WHAT HAPPENED?

Lyle Foster scored his first Premier League goal of the season despite Burnley losing 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The former Orlando Pirates forward was on target 10 minutes into the second half to make it 1-1 but the Red Devils went on to collect maximum points through a penalty deep into stoppage time.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Saturday's goal was a timely strike for Foster as he prepares to report for national team duty this week.

He is expected to lead the Bafana Bafana attack when they take on Lesotho and Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Bloemfontein.

Foster has started three Premier League games this season, playing the entire 90 minutes in two of those.

    WHAT NEXT FOR FOSTER?

Iqraam Rayners is the other outright striker in the Bafana squad, making him Foster's direct competitor for a starting spot in Hugo Broos' side.

Expectations are high on the two, especially against Nigeria, which could be a tougher opponent for South Africa.
