Unconvincing Bafana Bafana's winners and losers in Angola draw

Ronwen Williams After his below par display against Mozambique as his ability on the ball was questioned, the experienced goalkeeper produced an improved performance in the clash with Angola. Williams was arguably Bafana's best player and he was the difference between a draw and a defeat for South Africa. The 30-year-old was cool, calm and collected as he accurately distributed the ball from the back with either with his feet or hands.Zakhele Lepasa The Orlando Pirates striker was beginning to feel the pressure having started three matches under Broos without scoring. Lepasa finally opened his scoring account for the national team when he hit the back of the net from the penalty shot after Kgaogelo Sekgota had been fouled in the visitors' box. The goal will serve a massive confidence booster for Lepasa and he has also rewarded Broos' faith in him.

Winners: 

Rushine de ReuckFollowing his disappointing performance against Mozambique, the former Maritzburg United defender was handed another starting berth. De Reuck was outsmarted by Angolan strikers in the air and his marking was questionable at times. The Mamelodi Sundowns star failed to make the most out of the absence of the injured duo of Nkosinathi Sibisi and Innocent Maela in the Bafana camp.Siyanda XuluThe Azerbaijan-based defender was handed a rare start having fallen out of favour under Broos in the last few months. Xulu was part of the Bafana defence which looked shaky when defending against aerial balls. To make matters worse Xulu, unfortunately, picked up an injury and he was substituted prior to the start of the second half. It is an opportunity lost for the 31-year-old.Fagrie Lakay The Pyramids forward is another player who couldn't grab his opportunity with both hands. Lakay was handed a rare start, but he never posed a threat to the Angolan defence and chances were hard to come by for him until he was substituted. With the likes of Percy Tau, Lebogang Mothiba and Lyle Foster expected to be called up for the matches against Liberia, Lakay will face still competition to be in the starting line-up or even make the squad.

Losers:

Ronwen Williams - 7.5/10Redeemed himself on the day after being criticized following Thursday's game against Mozambique.Williams showed great awareness and reflexes as he saved the visitors' attempts. He was unlucky to be beaten when Cristovao Paciencia scored, but he was the difference between a defeat and a draw for Bafana.Nyiko Mobbie - 6.5/10One of the best crossers of the ball in the team.Mobbie had a decent game overall being solid defensively and good when pushing forward into Angola's half where he delivered some accurate crosses.Aubrey Modiba - 5/10Tormented by Megue.Modiba was kept busy by the Angolan winger who was a constant threat to the hosts' defence. The Bafana left-back didn't offer much offensively. Rushine de Reuck - 5.5Struggled aerially. De Reuck was caught in no man's land when Paciencia netted with a header. However, he did distribute the ball well by playing good passes into the midfield.Siyanda Xulu - 6/10Made some vital clearances and interceptions as he enjoyed a decent game overall in the first half, but he was substituted at half-time due to a shoulder injury.

Defensive ratings:

Teboho Mokoena - 6.5/10Busy in midfield.Mokoena looked sharp and caused problems for Angola with his late runs into their box. He had two good chances in the opposition's box, but he failed to hit the target.Luke le Roux - 6/10Had a decent game in midfield.Le Roux operated in a deeper role in the middle of the park - winning most of his duels and forcing Palancas Negras to attack through the wings.Themba Zwane - 5/10Not at his best.Zwane struggled to break the lines as he was unable to complete his dribbles and looked very disconnected from his teammates. He was substituted just after the hour mark.

Midfield ratings:

Kgaogelo Sekgota - 6.5/10Influential in the first half.Sekgota was at his vintage best as he dribbled past players with creativity and Bafana were awarded a penalty after he was fouled. However, his influence waned after the restart.Fagrie Lakay - 5.5/10Had his moments but lacked consistency. Lakay would have liked to do much more but was limited by the backline of Angola who did well to neutralize him.Zakhele Lepasa - 7/10Pressed and hurried Palancas Negras' defenders who made mistakes.Lepasa scored the goal which ensured that the game ended in a draw from the penalty spot, but he was substituted in the 71st minute as he was no longer effective.

Forward ratings:

Grant Kekana - 6/10Put in a decent display after replacing Xulu in the first half as he brought some aerial prowess to the Bafana defence and he also timed his tackles very well.Bongokuhle Hlongwane - 6/10Injected some needed urgency and pace to the Bafana attack when he came on in the 61st minute, but he was indecisive in the final third. Miguel Timm - 5.5/10Also introduced in the 61st minute and he brought some creativity to the hosts' midfield, but he was outnumbered in midfield at times when Palancas Negras counter-attacked.Monnapule Saleng - 5/10Couldn't make an impact after coming on in the 71st minute and his poorly taken free-kick flew over the crossbar.Khanyisa Mayo - 5.5/10Got himself into some good positions in Angola's box, but he couldn't keep his attempts on target having been introduced in the 71st minute.
