    WHAT HAPPENED?

Sphelele Mkhulise started his career at Mamelodi Sundowns and has since established himself as a key player.

Apart from Masandawana, the 28-year-old played for Richards Bay, albeit on loan in the 2017/18 season.

The midfielder has also represented Bafana Bafana on several occasions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This season, Mkhulise has put up some decent displays in the Sundowns jersey.

He has played 10 Premier Soccer League matches with a return of two goals.

In the Caf Champions League, he has four appearances and a goal to his name.

Teboho Mokoena has now made a huge claim on his teammate, comparing him with Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, at the same time saying Mkhulise's style of play is like that of the on-loan midfielder Sipho Mbule.

    WHAT MOKOENA SAID

“I’m a very big fan of Siphelele Mkhulise. I’ve been a huge fan of him, ever since I saw him first play at Black Leopards,” Mokoena told iDiski Magazine.

“I just love how his natural style, everything is natural, so effortless, and when you train with him. I see him every day and this boy is so good.

“I think I don’t know if it’s him sleeping on himself or whoever, or people who don’t see this quality I see. Maybe it’s because he’s grown up there.”

“It’s always like that when you’re in one team until you retire, they think ‘ah this one is this or that’,” he added.

“But I love him and how he plays, I’ve just always been a fan of him even before he was my teammate. He’s so good, man, he’s more Sipho Mbule-style, or like Iniesta, he’s an Iniesta.

“He can dribble past people, he can pass – he’s so good. Ai yai, yai. I enjoy watching him with the ball, connecting with defenders, midfield, attack," Mokoena concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mkhulise is among the players who coach Miguel Cardoso wants to use frequently in his bid to meet the club's objectives.

However, the main aim for Mkhulise is to be part of the Bafana Bafana team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations competition.
