Six signings in the PSL that never worked out in 2020/ 21

The 29-year-old DR Congo international arrived at Orlando Pirates with a strong reputation. But he made only three league appearances for Bucs, failing to score, and this in a season in which Bucs had major injury problems with several of their strikers. His solitary goal for Pirates came in one of the three Caf Champions League games he participated in.

1. Jean-Marc Makusu Mundele

Having sold one of their prized assets in Kermit Erasmus to Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City were in need of a reliable marksman and had hoped that Shonga would be that man, after the promise he had previously shown at Orlando Pirates. 
 
But the Zambian never found his stride in the Mother City and scored just once in 20 league and cup games for the Citizens.

2. Justin Shonga

Manyisa only joined Chippa United in March this year. But even so, his impact was completely negligible - he played 20 minutes in the league and six minutes in the Nedbank Cup.
At 32-years-old, Manyisa has five league winners' medals to his credit, but his career has declined steadily since leaving Orlando Pirates for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017. An Achilles Heel injury has been one of the issues behind the former Bafana Bafana midfielder's slide towards obscurity.

3. Oupa Manyisa

Goss arrived from Bidvest Wits with his reputation sky high after an excellent couple of seasons had resulted in him earning his debut cap for Bafana Bafana in 2020.
But the 27-year-old failed to play a single match in the league, his only action coming in the handful of domestic and continental cup games he played in.

At his age, and with his career having seemingly been on an upward trajectory, last season would surely have been a disappointing one for Goss, albeit not completely surprising given the level of competition at Downs.

4. Ricardo Goss

Tshabalala arrived as a high-profile signing and would have been hoping to carry on where he left off in the PSL, prior to leaving Kaizer Chiefs for Turkish side BB Erzurumspor, which never worked out for him.
But it didn't go according to plan for Shabba - after injuries had initially left him sidelined at AmaZulu, the team's good form and the excellent performances of some of his teammates meant that in the end he played only 155 minutes last season.

5. Siphiwe Tshabalala

It was always going to be a major challenge for the Capetonian to break into the star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns midfield department.
And while the 23-year-old had shown plenty of promise at Ajax Cape Town, his career effectively stalled last season as he was given only three league appearances for the Brazilians.

6. Grant Margeman
