Samir Nurkovic's replacement fires nine-man TS Galaxy into Carling Knockout quarter-finals after narrow Chippa United win

TS Galaxy needed extra-time to overcome Chippa United in a tense Carling Knockout Cup encounter played at Mbombela Stadium, with Dzenan Zajmovic scoring the decisive goal.

However, the victory came at a cost, as both Zajmovic and Victor Letsoalo saw red before the final whistle, reducing the Rockets to nine men.

The match failed to live up to expectations, with neither side managing to take full control. Both teams struggled to find the rhythm and create consistent goal-scoring opportunities, resulting in a scrappy and cagey affair that frustrated fans hoping for more excitement.

Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the standout performer, making several crucial saves to keep his side in contention.

His efforts between the posts ensured the game remained level through regulation time, forcing the match into an additional 30 minutes.

TS Galaxy’s breakthrough came in extra time when Zajmovic found the back of the net, sparking relief and celebration among the Rockets' supporters.

However, his joy was short-lived as he received a red card for a reckless challenge, soon followed by Letsoalo’s dismissal for an off-the-ball incident.

Despite finishing with nine men, TS Galaxy held firm and managed to secure their place in the next round.

Chippa's inability to capitalize on the numerical advantage highlighted their lack of sharpness in front of goal, leaving them to reflect on missed opportunities.

Zajmovic, who had a decent game, scored the winning goal and he enjoys scoring against Chippa United as he also netted against them in a league game.

The Bosnian striker has filled the void left by Samir Nurkovic in the Galaxy squad.

Chippa head coach Kwanele Kopo's game plan did not work as the football they displayed was not good for the eye. They bow out of the Carling Knockout.

Chippa will welcome Stellenbosch at home in the league, while Galaxy will travel to Bloemfontein to tackle Marumo Gallants.
