    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lukaku was among the most important figures in the Napoli squad as Antonio Conte's side won the Scudetto on the final matchday. Lukaku was on the scoresheet as they beat Cagliari to edge Inter to the Serie A title. The Belgian showcased his all-round game; while his 14 goals in 36 games were a far cry from the 24 goals he scored with the Nerazzurri in the 2020-21 season, he laid on 10 assists to help Napoli clinch their second league title in three seasons.

  • WHAT ROMELU LUKAKU SAID

Taking to Instagram, Lukaku wrote: "Thank you everyone for the messages in the last few days. I really appreciate the support from you guys. Sh*t happens and injuries are part of the game, but by the grace of God, I feel good and I'm always positive minded no matter what. See you soon."

    WHAT NEXT FOR NAPOLI?

After undergoing medical examinations at the Pineta Grande Hospital, the club released an official statement confirming that Lukaku will remain on the sidelines until November. The striker sustained a high-grade injury in the rectus femoris. The 32-year-old's absence will have been a bitter blow to Conte. The Partenopei are reportedly considering signing a striker as a replacement for the former Inter, Manchester United and Chelsea forward with three Premier League players - Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson as well as United duo Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund - are on their shortlist. The latter has been heavily linked with a move to rivals AC Milan, but Napoli could hijack the move. Meanwhile, the Italian outfit are also considering a shock move for Leicester City icon Jamie Vardy, who is currently a free agent.
