Revealed: Marseille’s response to Mason Greenwood goals drying up – with ex-Man Utd forward enduring four-game barren run after flying start

The 23-year-old forward enjoyed a dream start to his spell in Ligue 1, with the finding the target on five occasions through his opening three outings of the 2024-25 campaign. That earned him plenty of plaudits and the love of the passionate fanbase in Marseille, with the club welcoming a new hero.

Greenwood has, however, now gone four games without finding the back of the net. His last efforts came when bagging a brace against Toulouse at the end of August. Another international break has now been reached, with Marseille dropping points in their last two fixtures.

Roberto De Zerbi has said of seeing his side lose their spark: “Some of our decisive players are not in shape, like Mason Greenwood.” The one-cap England international has failed to score or provide an assist in four games, having previously been billed as “too good” for the French top flight – as he generated talk of interest from La Liga giants Barcelona.

According to L’Equipe, Marseille remain unfazed by the dip in form for Greenwood – as he is far from being the only one to see impressive early-season standards slip. They fully expect the player they lured away from Old Trafford in a £27 million ($35m) transfer to play a crucial role for them over the remainder of the season.
