Raphael Varane agrees to join Cesc Fabregas' Como with Serie A side now 'on the verge' of signing former Man Utd and Real Madrid defender

Per Fabrizio Romano, the Cesc Fabregas-managed Italian club have got the green light from the former France and Real Madrid star. The player's representatives will now review the terms of the deal before the player undergoes a medical and puts pen to paper on a formal deal. Fabregas reportedly played a key role in convincing Varane to make the move.

The 31-year-old World Cup-winner is currently a free agent after his contract with United expired at the end of the 2023-24 campaign. The player had a disappointing season at Old Trafford as he remained sidelined with a muscle injury for a lengthy period. He appeared in 22 matches across all competitions and was part of the Red Devils' starting lineup that beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Lionel Messi's Inter Miami were also linked with a move for the Frenchman, however, the player has now decided to ditch a move to the US to join the Italian club.

The ex-France international could make his competitive debut for his new club on August 19 as Fabregas' side will play their season opener against Juventus.
