PSL confirms MTN8 quarter-final dates and venues as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns learn opponents

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Premier Soccer League has confirmed the venue, dates and the quarter-final pairings for the MTN8 tournament.

    The Premiership season's curtain-raising tournament will be played before the 2025/26 campaign begins.

    Orlando Pirates, winners of the trophy in the last three seasons, will kick off their campaign with a game against Polokwane City on August 2 at Orlando Stadium. On the same day, Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy will face off in a match that will be held at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

    On August 3, two more games have been scheduled with Stellenbosch hosting AmaZulu at the DHL Stadium. Mamelodi Sundowns will play Richards Bay, who finished in the top eight for the first time, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Pirates will be out to try and extend their dominance in the domestic competition after winning the last three editions.

    However, this year's MTN8's fanfare will go on without Kaizer Chiefs, who finished ninth last season after struggling in the league.

    WHAT NEXT?

    After learning their opponents, the quarter-finalists will now train in their pre-season with eyes partly focused on these games.

    Pirates have so far played two games and will continue to sharpen themselves with another on Thursday as they are set to face Spanish side Las Palmas.
