    WHAT THE FA SAID

The Football Association (FA) confirmed the Manchester City star's departure from the Three Lions' camp, saying in a statement: "Phil Foden has temporarily left the England camp and returned to the UK for a pressing family matter."

It was later widely reported that Foden had left to attend the birth of his third child.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    WHAT NEXT?

Foden's involvement in the first knockout round may now be in doubt as he is away celebrating the arrival of his third child and is therefore unable to train. England will face either the Netherlands or the team that finishes third in Group E at 5pm (BST) on Sunday.
