Mamelodi Sundowns have closed the gap on Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League table following a 3-0 win over Cape Town City at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa gave Manqoba Mngqithi's side all three points against the Cape Town-based outfit.

Shalulile opened the scoring for Masandawana in the 16th minute. Ribeiro doubled the lead for the host in the 37th minute.

The match went to the half-time break with the Brazilians in the driving seat. Six minutes into the second half, the 31-year-old striker completed his brace.

Cape Town City were reduced to ten men after midfielder Aprocius Petrus was shown a red card ten minutes before the final whistle.

The result meant the Tshwane giants are now three points behind Pirates in the PSL standings while City dropped to the 13th spot.

    THE MVP

Following an awful start to the 2024-25 season, Peter Shalulile has been redeeming himself in the last few games.

Against Cape Town City, the Namibia international netted twice and he deserves to be honoured for his impressive performance.

    THE BIG LOSER

Cape Town City came to this game on a high note after collecting four points from their latest two games.

Eric Tinkler should be disappointed to see his side lose with such a score on the night.
