Orlando Pirates weakness exposed by former midfielder - 'They are lacking in depth where Saleng should be playing'

Orlando Pirates have been overlooking Monnapule Saleng since December 7 when he was part of the team that played Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League's Group C outing.

Prior to the game, the 26-year-old had featured for the Sea Robbers 12 times - this season, with five assists and a goal.

Coach Riveiro has been relying on Deon Hotto - at times, Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota in attack.

According to former midfielder Michael Morton, the Sea Robbers are struggling in attack.

He argues that Saleng should be helping in the wing since he has what it takes to deliver as expected.

“They’re lacking in depth, the fact that Saleng is still missing. But they’ve been using [Deon] Hotto forward and [Mohau] Nkota where Saleng should be playing [on the wing],” Morton told FARPost.

“Nkota has impressed. Hotto has been doing well there, but in most of the games, he’s been playing left-back and then moving to the wing.

“Ideally, no one knows what is going on with Saleng. People can say all they want, but it will be just speculation. The club should just address the matter, whatever it is," he concluded.

Saleng has been included in Bafana Bafana's Chan squad that will play Egypt in a two-legged qualifier.

It will be a massive chance for the attacker to show what he has to offer before his current deal expires at the end of the season.

The Soweto giants have an option to extend his deal by two years.
