Orlando Pirates legend backs Rasebotja as better replacement for Makhaula - 'He's even better than Timm'

Orlando Pirates suffered their second defeat of the season against Cape Town City, with key player Makhehleni Makhaula missing due to suspension.

His absence highlighted his importance to coach Jose Riveiro’s system.

Bucs legend Andries Sebola believes that Selaelo Rasebotja, the 23-year-old midfielder, is the perfect replacement whenever Makhaula is unavailable.

Sebola also stated that Rasebotja is a better option than Miguel Timm, who has not been playing regularly.

While Rasebotja faces stiff competition from Timm and Thalente Mbatha, his potential is clear, and he must continue to fight for a spot in the starting lineup.

"They will manage without Makhaula because they still have [Miguel] Timm and [Selaelo] Rasebotja, and we mustn’t forget about Thalente Mbatha as well," said Sebola as reported by KickOff.

"Personally, I believe Rasebotja will always be a better replacement for Makhaula because he can anchor the midfield effectively, unlike Timm, who tends to play long balls and hasn’t been getting much game-time lately."

The former SuperSport United midfielder has made only eight appearances for Pirates this season.

He faces stiff competition from Thalente Mbatha and Miguel Timm for a spot in the midfield.

However, Rasebotja’s age is on his side, offering him room for growth and development.

To secure a regular spot in the starting lineup, he will need to consistently perform and prove his worth.

Jose Riveiro’s selection will likely depend on Rasebotja’s ability to push his case with solid performances.

Pirates will face CR Belouizdad at Orlando Stadium in Matchday five of the Caf Champions League group stages on Sunday before clashing with Egyptian giants Al Ahly a few days later.
