Chippa United welcomed title-chasing Orlando Pirates to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on March 5, 2024.

This game saw Jose Riviero return to the bench after missing the last game due to suspension. Bucs made a couple of changes to the lineup, with Melusi Buthelezi starting in place of the suspended Sipho Chaine and Mbekezeli Mbokazi making his debut.

The opening goal came in the referee’s optional time in the first half as captain Nkosinathi Sibisi headed in a corner kick. Bucs closed the points gap to 16 points.

This followed Mamelodi Sundowns' draw with Golden Arrows and Bucs also have four games in hand.

    THE MVP

Mbekezeli Mbokazi had a great debut for Pirates. He partnered with Nkosinathi Sibisi in the defense.

The left-footed center back replaced Tapelo Xoki. Mbokazi showed maturity and made no mistakes.

The South Africa under-20 player gave balance to the back four.

    THE BIG LOSER

Chippa failed to get maximum points after three games, and the Gqeberha-based side is now out of the top eight.

In the 2024/25 season, the Chilli Boys did not register a win against Pirates, losing 2-1 in the first round. The home side did not trouble stand-in goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi.
