Newcastle's uphill battle! Magpies face serious challenge to convince Atalanta to part with 'unsellable' Giorgio Scalvini this summer

Newcastle have reportedly shown serious interest in signing Scalvini. However, Atalanta have made it clear they are not entertaining any offers for the highly rated defender, regardless of price. Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport states there are 'no negotiations' because Atalanta consider him untouchable.

Scalvini missed most of last season through injury, but his immense potential has not gone unnoticed by major names in the footballing world. Newcastle’s admiration for the player is long-standing, yet they may now have to reassess their defensive targets as the Italian club refuses to budge.

As per reports from Italian media, even speculative fees between €40-50 million (£34m-43m) were unlikely to sway Atalanta, who believe Scalvini can be central to their future. Newcastle’s interest in the highly rated centre-back is genuine and serious, but Atalanta didn’t even counter with a valuation.

The Magpies may now either test Atalanta’s resolve with a formal bid or shift their focus elsewhere. For now, Scalvini appears firmly off the market, and any summer move looks extremely unlikely unless circumstances change dramatically.
