Nedbank Cup: Defending champions Orlando Pirates overcome resilient AmaZulu to advance to the semi-finals

Pirates began the match strongly, creating two significant opportunities within the first three minutes. Meanwhile, Usuthu absorbed the pressure and eventually capitalized on a break attack, with Hendrick Ekstein breaking the deadlock for the hosts with a strike from the edge of the box on the half-hou. Trailing by a goal, the Buccaneers increased their intensity and found an equalizer just before halftime when Patrick Maswanganyi calmly converted from the penalty spot, ensuring the teams headed into the break tied at 1-1.However, in the second half, Pirates seized the lead 2-1 thanks to Kabelo Dlamini's exceptional free-kick at the 57th-minute mark. Unfortunately, their lead didn’t last long when Usuthu's Taariq Fielies got a free header to level the score at 2-2.The excitement escalated as Makhehlene Makhaula found the net for Pirates, securing their third goal in the 82nd minute and marking his first goal for the team. Maswanganyi sealed the victory in the 93rd minute, securing a 4-2 win and propelling the Buccaneers into the Nedbank Cup semi-final round, alongside Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch.
