    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating the Premier Soccer League with eight straight titles.

That has left the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates being hard-pressed to break the Brazilians' supremacy.

Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has taken stock of his side's performance last season and feels he has a better team this time around.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“I would not say much about [challenging for] the league title, but I will take it game by game, and I’m pretty sure we will be better than the previous season,” Nabi said as per Sowetan Live.

“It’s going to be a tough league, but we know where we have come from and where we want to go, and we are looking forward to it. The only thing I can say is that we are very ready.

"I think it is important that one doesn’t dwell on last season’s results, [though] obviously the performances one must look at. We know how the matches went, and I felt two of the three were unlucky to get something out of the game," added the Tunisian.

“So, [there are] one or two areas that we need to be better at than we were last season, but it is a fresh campaign with new players. I’m not going there to avenge last season’s results.

The expectations and pressure are on them more than on us. They are expected to get off to a good start with all the signings they made in the last two seasons.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi struggled to make Chiefs a consistent last season in what was his first term with the Soweto giants.

But he made up for that when he steered them to Nedbank Cup triumph, their first major trophy in 10 years.

That is something he would want to build on going into the new season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Amakhosi play their first official match of the 2025/26 season on Sunday when they visit Stellenbosch.

It is a tricky tie for the Soweto giants against a team that will be participating in the CAF Confederation Cup for the second season running.
