    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs remain in the running to dethrone Stellenbosch as DStv Diski Challenge champions after a thrilling 1-1 draw in Idas Valley.

Chiefs took the lead early through Naledi Hlongwane, who capitalized on a quick attacking move to put his side ahead.

It looked like Dillon Sheppard’s team would walk away with all three points, but Stellenbosch had other ideas.

Quwan Plaatjies stepped up with a crucial equaliser late in the match to deny Amakhosi victory.

The intensity of the match spilled over, with both sides reduced to ten men after red cards were shown to Siyabonga Gamede and Tonny Mbunga.

Despite the draw, Chiefs showed resilience and structure in a high-pressure fixture.

The result keeps them in contention in the title race, with just a few games remaining.

As things stand, every point will be vital in the final stretch of the season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amakhosi are navigating this crucial phase of the campaign without their head coach, Vela Khumalo, who is in Morocco on national duty, aiming to guide South Africa’s U17s to a World Cup spot in Qatar.

Star striker Neo Bohloko is also representing the country and has already bagged two goals in the tournament.

Despite their absence, Coach Dillon Sheppard has been holding things down on the home front with a composed and disciplined approach.

The squad has shown maturity and adaptability in the face of these challenges.

Sheppard’s ability to manage the team effectively underlines the depth and quality within the Chiefs’ development ranks.

The title dream is still very much alive for the young Glamour Boys.
