    WHAT HAPPENED?

Celebrated South African coach Pitso Mosimane was appointed Esteghlal coach in October.

He was meant to help the two-time AFC Champions League title winners get back to their best after a poor start to the season.

Mosimane managed to help the team recover, to some extent, before his exit.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Esteghlal failed to pay the technical team as agreed in the contract.

After waiting for some time without success, Mosimane eventually quit the club - which later paid the coach and his staff.

Since his exit, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has since been accused of having a selfish agenda with his move to Iran.

However, his agent Moira Tlhagale has denied the reports, insisting Mosimane was willing to stay, and that his achievements were there for all to see.

    WHAT TLHAGALE SAID

“I don’t know what the beef is there because that ex-CEO was fired,” she told iDiski Times.

“And I believe it was because it became clear the coach was not paid, and they brought in a new [leadership] team. As for the Technical Director, we’ve never met a Technical Director, so I don’t know who that guy is.

“We are not going to be commenting on what people are saying and maybe they are protecting themselves from the supporters to make us look bad. The fact of the matter is the coach got to Iran and the team improved. The coach was committed to being there.

“There were new players that came in during the transfer open window. Why would you bring in new players and then leave?

“But the reality is you cannot just stay in a place where there are stories about your salaries. They can’t leave South Africa and go to Iran and not be paid. It is as simple as that, and for me, it is total disrespect," Tlhagale concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mosimane has not had a good outing in his most recent jobs despite the massive quality he has.

However, he is still one of the best tacticians in Mzansi and Africa at large.

It is interesting to see what will be his next assignment once the dust settles.
