AmaZulu created the first notable chance within the opening eight minutes, as Victor Letsoalo narrowly missed giving the visitors the lead with an unmarked shot at the back post that struck the woodwork.However, Usuthu suffered a setback in the 21st minute when defender Abbubaker Mobara received a controversial straight red card for denying Patrick Maswanganyi a goal-scoring opportunity, despite getting to the ball first. Despite being reduced to 10 men, AmaZulu maintained their attacking momentum, but both teams went into halftime with the scoreline still at 0-0. In the second half, AmaZulu persisted in their attacks, but Pirates stopped their attempts and also had chances to score themselves. The Sea Robbers' efforts finally paid off in the 75th minute when striker Tshegofatso Mabasa gave his side the lead. Bucs managed to hold onto the 1-0 scoreline, which sees them leapfrog Stellenbosch to second on the PSL table, while AmaZulu are placed in 13th position.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mabasa's goal was the difference-maker in the match. Despite having a relatively quiet night, his crucial contribution secured maximum points for Pirates when it counted the most. With this goal, he now shares the top spot on the PSL goal scorers list with Mamelodi Sundowns' Lucas Ribeiro Costa, both tallying 11 goals.

Referee Cedric Muvhali is under scrutiny for not only giving Mobara a red card but also for initially calling a foul when the Usuthu defender cleanly reached the ball first. The issuance of this red card sparked tension that persisted throughout the match between the two teams.

THE BIG LOSER

The Buccaneers are set to journey for their upcoming league fixture against Royal AM on Sunday, April 28th. While Usuthu will face Chippa United a day prior.
