Memphis Depay reveals 'final dream' he wants to become reality before retiring as Dutchman eyes 2026 milestone

Depay joined Brazilian side Corinthians in 2024 having spent most of his career travelling across Europe's top five leagues. The 31-year-old also has 100 appearances for the Netherlands, but wants to add to that number at the 2026 World Cup before he retires.

Speaking recently to France Football, Depay opened up on his last wishes for his career, saying: "My last dream as a player? Winning the World Cup. We came very close in 2014 in Brazil. I would like to continue to inspire the new generation. To show them that it is important to be yourself on and off the field. To be confident, to not think about how you are judged, to have your own character.”

"We are entering a new era, with players who have this state of mind, and I think I have, in my own way, played a small part in that."

Depay has had to adapt how he plays football since moving to Brazil, but it has also given him a new experience that could prove invaluable at international level. The Netherlands will have to produce something special if they are to compete with the likes of champions Argentina and the world's other nations in the United States next summer.

For now, Depay will continue to focus on his stint with Corinthians. His contract at the Brazilian club expires in 2026, just in time for him to suit up in the orange colours of his national team.
