    WHAT HAPPENED?

Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns played to a goalless draw in the first leg of the Caf Confederation Cup played at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Mzansi.

In the second leg at the Cairo International Stadium, a rocket from Taher Mohamed in the 24th minute gave the holders a lead.

They then resorted to a defensive approach in their bid to frustrate Masandawana.

However, an own goal from Yasser Ibrahim sent the South African outfit through, much to the frustration of the Al Ahly faithful.

Coach Marcel Koller has now conceded that playing cautiously was a mistake.

    WHAT KOLLER SAID

"The disappointment is present among all of us, even though we did not lose the match; our goal was to write a new history by reaching the final, but I am very sad," he said in a presser.

"We took the lead with a goal and had a defensive approach, knowing it was a deceptive result.

"We conceded a late own goal, and the time was not enough to achieve victory," Koller concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Al Ahly are hurting after failing to make the last two, Sundowns have a massive chance to get their second star.

They will play Pyramids in a two-legged final in the next couple of weeks.

Masandawana have reached the semi-final in the last three editions before getting into the final this year.

It will be a massive achievement for coach Miguel Cardoso, who was brought to help the Brazilians conquer the continent.

    WHAT NEXT?

Sundowns' focus, briefly, shifts to domestic competitions, where they will be hoping to win their seventh consecutive title.

However, it will not be easy as Orlando Pirates are targeting the crown as well.

Masandawana lead the race with 58 points from 23 games, 12 more than Bucs, who have played three matches less.
