    WHAT HAPPENED?

The kick-off date for the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season has been revealed.

According to FARPost, the date on which the new season will begin is August 8, 2025.

Apart from the PSL kick-off date being reported, the MTN8 is set to begin on August 1 this year, according to the same publication.

    WHAT IS MORE

The National First Division's new campaign is expected to begin on August 22 this year. This update was reinforced by Casric head coach Joseph Mthombeni in his post-match reaction after their promotion/playoff showdown against Cape Town City.

Meanwhile, the DStv Diski Challenge will kick off on the 6th of September, with Kaizer Chiefs hoping to defend the title after winning it for the first time last season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

As is the tradition before the new season begins, the MTN8 will first roll on with Sundowns, Stellenbosch, AmaZulu, Pirates, Sekhukhune United, TS Galaxy, Polokwane City, and Richards Bay fighting for the curtain-raising trophy.

This is another chance for the Sea Robbers to stamp authority on this domestic competition, given that they are the winners of the last three editions.

Meanwhile, new sides will be testing themselves in the top flight after their respective promotions. Durban City, last season's champions of the second tier, and Orbit College will be the new kids in the PSL.

Orbit College secured their ticket to the PSL after a successful campaign in the promotion/relegation playoffs.

Cape Town City, who were unable to secure their PSL status even through the playoffs, will compete in the NFD.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS, SUNDOWNS AND PIRATES?

Masandawana are expected to fight tooth and nail and defend the title after bagging it for the eighth season in a row when they were declared champions last season.

The Sea Robbers, who finished second on three straight occasions, will hope to give the Brazilians a run for their money this time under Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Head coach Nasreddine Nabi will be in charge for his second season, and after a disappointing PSL campaign, he hopes to see his Amakhosi rise to the challenge and run toe-to-toe against their peers.
