    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have won just one trophy in the last decade, which does not match their status.

The only silverware came last season when they beat Orlando Pirates in the final after eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final.

However, they finished in an unimpressive ninth position in the Premier Soccer League.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After qualifying for the Caf Confederation Cup, Amakhosi have signed six players to bolster the squad.

A big number of the players are free agents; Ethan Chislett joined after his deal with Port Vale concluded, the same scenario with Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane, who were initially with Pirates.

Siphesihle Ndlovu has also joined Amakhosi from SuperSport United.

The Soweto giants have been faulted for this mode of business by their former assistant coach Farouk Khan.

    WHAT KHAN SAID

“Stop rebuilding from scratch every season,” Khan told iDiski Times.

“Create a blueprint. Develop from within. Make sure the technical, admin, and management teams are aligned.

“In the past, you could look at a player and say, ‘That’s a Chiefs player.’ Today, that’s no longer true.

"It’s not just about winning one trophy. It’s about sustained excellence," he continued

“You can’t just sign players because they’re free agents, or they have potential.

“You need someone doing proper due diligence – not just watching a few clips but really understanding a player’s background, personality, and how they respond to pressure," Khan concluded.
