    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been chasing the signature of attacker Luke Baartman.

However, the player's status has been under contestation following Cape Town Spurs' relegation from the National First Division.

This saw the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber having to decide on his status, and they ruled in favour of the player, according to SABC Sport, iDiski Times and FARPost.

He has been declared a free agent and is free to join a club of his choice, providing Amakhosi with a chance to complete the signing of the forward.

    ANOTHET BOARDROOM VICTORY FOR CHIEFS

Recently, Amakhosi won another case at the PSL DRC when Aasanele Velebayi was declared a free agent.

This was after Spurs insisted that the midfielder was still their player, but the Soweto giants were given the green light to sign Velebayo, whom they have since officially unveiled.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 19-year-old has shown massive potential since making his Premier Soccer League debut during the 2023/24 season.

However, he could not score a single goal during the 2024/25 term in seven games across all competitions when Spurs were contesting in the National First Division.

Chiefs fans would be hoping he brushes aside last season's difficult campaign and lives up to the potential he showed two seasons ago.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs are expected to officially announce Baartman as their new player anytime soon.

He could be available for next week's PSL hosting of Mamelodi Sundowns, a big match for the Soweto giants.
