Kaizer Chiefs star Bruce Bvuma responds after Itumeleng Khune's criticism - 'Whatever happened happened; what he said, he said'

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has responded following criticism from former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Khune claimed that Mamelodi Sundowns' Ronwen Williams heeded his advice, but Bvuma did not.

To Khune, a former long-time servant of Amakhosi, Bvuma would not be struggling and would be Bafana's number one choice had he listened to what he told him.

Bvuma has responded, though diplomatically, to Khune's criticism and said his focus is on improving himself and doing well for the Glamour Boys.

"What he has done for the country is very big. I respect him. I do talk to him; I do talk to Itu, and whatever happened happened. What he said, he said," Bvuma said, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“My focus is the team; my focus is me doing well for the team and also making sure that I play to my full potential," he added.

Bvuma has established himself as Chiefs' number one goalkeeper, even though he was not one at the beginning of the season when Fiacre Ntwari was mostly the preferred choice.

Bvuma deputized for Khune before the experienced goalkeeper left at the end of last season.

In the ongoing season, he has featured in 21 games, where he has kept eight clean sheets.

A good season could make him considered for Bafana duties, joining or even replacing Williams or Orlando Pirates' Sipho Chaine, who are regular faces under Hugo Broos.

Bvuma would not want to be distracted by off-pitch drama at this point in the season.

Currently, the goalkeeper and his teammates are mainly focused on the upcoming Nedbank Cup final against Pirates, which will be played on May 10. This is the only trophy the Glamour Boys are hunting this season.

They are also hoping to finish in the top eight bracket, and that means they need to focus and put energy into their assignments more than ever, rather than be distracted by something else.

Chiefs will next face Marumo Gallants on April 26, before a Soweto league derby against Pirates on May 3. The Nedbank Cup final has been slated for May 10.
