Kaizer Chiefs player ratings vs Marumo Gallants: Khanyisa Mayo makes impact on debut, while Gaston Sirino struggles as Premier Soccer League points shared

Kaizer Chiefs shifted focus to Premier Soccer League action with a 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants in Wednesday’s clash. Khanyisa Mayo marked his debut with a composed finish late in the first half, giving the hosts a deserved lead after a dominant opening spell. Chiefs had a chance to double their advantage before the break, but Gaston Sirino’s penalty was saved by Washington Arubi.

Despite controlling much of the second half, Chiefs couldn’t find a second goal and were punished when Jaisen Clifford rifled home a stunning equaliser in the 74th minute. The result leaves Chiefs with mixed emotions, encouraged by Mayo’s impact, but frustrated by another missed opportunity to claim all three points.

    Brandon Petersen (6.5/10)

Made a few routine saves and was largely solid, but could do little to stop Jaisen Clifford’s top-corner strike.

    Bradley Cross (6.5/10)

Held his line well and showed composure under pressure, though lacked a bit of urgency in transitions.

    Inacio Miguel (6.5/10)

A steady presence at the back, but didn’t offer much going forward and was occasionally caught flat-footed.

    Zitha Kwinika (7/10)

Chiefs’ most assured defender on the night, read the game well and made key interceptions.

    Reeve Frosler (6.5/10)

Provided width and energy down the flank, but his final delivery was inconsistent.

Strong in the tackle and neat in possession, kept the midfield ticking with minimal fuss.

Showed flashes of intent but picked up a first-half yellow card and was taken off at halftime.

    Subs & Manager

    Thabo Cele (6/10)

Khalil Ben Youssef & Cedric Kaze (6/10)

After a disappointing CAF Confederation Cup defeat over the weekend, the coaching duo will take some solace in Chiefs securing a point against Gallants in the league. They made a few bold tactical decisions that saw the team take the lead, but once again, the inability to close out the match proved costly as Chiefs settled for a draw.
