    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs had a glimmer of hope when Nasreddine Nabi was appointed the head coach at the beginning of the season.

However, he has taken long to ensure the club delivers consistently, especially in the Premier Soccer League.

The team is struggling to finish in the top eight; they have recently been on a five-match winless run in the league.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

There have been rumours about the potential sacking of the Tunisian after the recent struggles.

However, things have been different, especially in the Cup competitions. The Glamour Boys reached the Carling Knockout quarter-final but were undone by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nevertheless, they beat the same opposition to set up a Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates.

Despite the achievement, reports have it that the club's management is divided about the future of Nabi.

Former Amakhosi captain Patrick Mabedi has explained why firing Nabi is not a good move.

    WHAT MABEDI SAID

"Yes, the results are not looking good the moment. And it's true, any team is judged by its results but from where I am standing, the team has improved under coach Nabi. Look at the chances they have been creating, though they can't convert," he told SNL24.

“If you change the coach now, things have to start all over again, which won't be good. That's why I am saying Chiefs should keep Nabi. There is no need to fire him.

"You know, as a coach Nabi can only do so much. The rest is up to the players to do their job on the field of play.

"The coach does his work at training and in the dressing room, but in the field of play, it's up to the players, and I think they haven't been 100 percent perfect so far. They need to work on that and keep the coach, " Mabedi continued.
