    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs ended their trophy drought on May 10 when they beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup.

It was a reward for their hard work in cup competitions after failing to deliver in the Carling Knockout, where they fell in the quarter-final.

Brandon Petersen pulled some fantastic saves to ensure Amakhosi won it.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Things have not been flowing for the Glamour Boys in the Premier Soccer League.

Chiefs are currently placed ninth on the table with 30 points, the same as Chippa United, who are placed eighth owing to their superior goal difference.

Magesi and SuperSport United can finish in the MTN8 places if they win their matches at hand.

However, Petersen is not giving up ahead of their two remaining games against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City, respectively.

  • WHAT PETERSEN SAID

"A 100 percent and I think we have two cup finals left. You know, we want to finish this season on a high. We want to end in the top 8 so we have more trophies, more silverware to play for next season, so I mean we'll celebrate tonight and then tomorrow it's back to work for those two cup finals," he said as quoted by SABC Sport.

"I think if something is set out for you to achieve it, if Jesus says yes no one can say no, and for me, I'm a firm believer in, if something is set out for you, you will achieve it. Every week we go out, we try and perform, and it doesn't always go our way.

"I think the fact that the history that's behind this, you know, and that change, I think that made it even more special for us. Making us want to really achieve it because this is the closest we've got this season to winning silverware.

“This was the last trophy up for grabs and I think that alone was the encouragement we needed to bring back the glory days," Petersen concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Petersen has seemingly outmuscled Bruce Bvuma to the number one position.

He hopes to maintain that as the Soweto giants work their way into the top eight by ensuring they get maximum points and their rivals flop.
