    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final 2-1 to end their trophy drought.

However, in his analysis on Monday night, former Fifa referee Victor Hlungwani believes the officials missed a serious tackle.

The 'Principal' argues Wandile Duba was supposed to be sent off after a dangerous foul on Makhehleni Makhaula.

  • WHAT HLUNGWANI SAID

“This is violent conduct... he’s not challenging for the ball because the assistant referee Gara Mokwena has raised the flag to say, ‘Stop play, whistle has been blown.’ Gara there making sure that he act like an officer and the referee there ensuring that Wandile Duba does not get the emotions out of him," he said on SoccerZone.

“But let’s see what he has done there. You can see that the whistle has been blown, but this is serious foul play. If the game is in play, he’s endangering the safety of an opponent. And then if the ball is out of play, it is violent conduct.

“But what did the referee see? The referee didn’t see [the tackle on Makhaula], he saw this [Duba pulling Mbokazi’s jersey]. This shows lack of respect for the game.

“Unfortunately, it was an incorrect decision.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Regardless of what Hlungwani feels, the Amakhosi fans care less since their team has finally been crowned after a decade.

It is a massive result for Nabi's men, who have been struggling for consistency, especially in the Premier Soccer League.

The Nedbank Cup triumph is the perfect way to end what, otherwise, has been a poor campaign, especially in the league.
