    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has reportedly attracted the interest of Libyan giants Al Ittihad.

The Libyans have until February 17 to complete their new signings before the transfer window closes in their country.

Tumisang Orebonye recently joined Al Ittihad from AS FAR Rabat and has explained why making a move could be ideal for his Botswana national captain.

    WHAT OREBONYE SAID

“I’d say look at your goals, where you want to be in two or three years,” Orebonye told FARPost.

“If those objectives align with the club’s vision, why not? Why not come here and experience a new environment?

“Now, you can see that Libya is growing, they’re signing top players. He’s been struggling a bit with game time in the early stages of the season. If he comes here, he’s an international player," added the Botswana international forward.

"He’s our captain. Obviously, in these top leagues, they respect these kinds of players. They will treat him like a professional. If the offer is good, he can play for three years, and after that, he can easily go to Belgium.

“The league – I didn’t expect what I’m seeing in terms of the level of the league. With the arrival of several international players like Kahraba, the league will certainly become stronger.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Al Ittihad reports have emerged at a time when Ditlhokwe has started enjoying some game time at Chiefs.

This is after he struggled for playing minutes at the beginning of the season but since November 2024, he turned himself into a regular, mostly as a left-back.

But a big offer could tempt him to move to Al Ittihad who signed former Al Ahly star Mahmoud Kahraba.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DITLHOKWE?

The former SuperSport United defender is likely to start when Amakhosi host Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 on Saturday.

But after that, it remains to be seen if he will still be a Chiefs player as coach Nasreddine Nabi could potentially be left looking for a new left-back.
