How Chiefs prepared for busy 25/26 campaign

Kaizer Chiefs were among the most active Premier Soccer League teams in South Africa's winter transfer window.

In total, 11 new signings were made by the Glamour Boys, who looked determined to end their struggles in Mzansi's top-flight football.

Most of these players came in as free agents, but with immense quality. All these were meant to ensure Amakhosi deliver domestically and abroad.

Players who are yet to make their debut

Lebohang Maboe, Ethan Chislett, and Asanele Velebayi have not yet made their official debut, but they were recently included in matchday squads.

Nevertheless, the likes of Luke Baartman and Nkanyiso Shinga have yet to make the squad for competitive matches. The former was even part of the Amajita squad that played in the U20 World Cup recently.

In his interview with the media, co-coach Kaze has pointed out why they might be forced to send the 19-year-old Baartman to DDC.

Baartman to DDC? Kaze opens up

"We have around 24 players, we have to play and get to know each other, and know how we want to play," he responded when asked about some new players who haven't made their debut.

"I will give you an example of Baartman. He came here and was not registered, then after that, he went to the [U20] World Cup.

"I would say that he didn’t come to the preseason, which means that, in general, he has missed at least two months with the team," Kaze continued.
"I’m a coach who believes in a process. I think that means a player like Velebayi is coming differently, like Baartman, and Velebayi was on the bench [against Siwelele] because he was training with us all the time.

"We have many players; we choose who plays and who doesn’t play. But at the end, it’s true that if you don’t perform, then someone will play, and I’m sure that everyone will get a chance to play.
"We are also considering allowing him [Baartman] to join the DDC team to get better. It’s something that we’re considering," he concluded.

Why Baartman should take the challenge

It is not a secret; Chiefs have many experienced midfielders as opposed to Baartman, explaining why it will not be easy for him to break into the first team right now.

However, he should use the DDC as a platform to underline his worth and convince the Amakhosi technical team that he has what it takes to help them deliver.
